Description

A 4 years PhD position in "The ebb and flow of human brain activity, cognition, and performance" project is to be filled within the Department of Radiology at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV).

Contexte

The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of five Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in the areas of medical care, medical research and training.

The Sense is a new academic research centre dedicated to innovation, research and training in sensory systems. This initiative is the result of a collaboration between three Swiss academic partners: the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland –  Valais/Wallis (HES-SO Valais/Wallis), the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV).

This project si funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation as part of a Starting Grant (Principal Investigator: David Pascucci, CHUV/Unil/The Sense Innovation Center).

The project aim is to understand the relationship between individual-specific temporal structures of neural activity—particularly focusing on alpha-band neuronal oscillations—and variability in perceptual and cognitive functions. Specific segments of the project will explore temporal structures of neural activity linked to inter-individual variability in contextual effects in perception.

The project involves the collection of large-scale datasets comprising resting-state and event-related electroencephalography (EEG) data, recorded alongside behavioral performance in a wide range of visual tasks. The analysis will combine EEG and EEG inverse modeling with advanced multivariate statistical and predictive modeling techniques.

The project involves collaboration with a broad network of partners both within and outside Switzerland.

  • Recruitment of study participants, collection, and analysis of EEG+behavioral data
  • Dissemination of research through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
