JOB PURPOSE :
Sustainability is essential to our success, and we are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual who can support our sustainability journey. Reporting to our Vice President, Sustainability & ESG, the Sustainability & Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for managing and initiating engagement on environmental and social issues in the communities in which we operate, leading our efforts in fostering community partnerships, promoting sustainability initiatives, and enhancing our corporate social responsibility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Community Outreach:
•Develop and execute community engagement strategies to build strong relationships with local communities, ports, government bodies, local tourism authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
•Directly manage onboard and shoreside sustainability events, including relationships with crew and other stakeholders.
•Represent the company in relevant forums, events, and industry conferences to promote sustainability initiatives and address community concerns.

Stakeholder Collaboration :
•Collaborate with internal departments to align sustainability goals and ensure a cohesive approach to community engagement.
•Facilitate dialogue and partnerships with local organisations to understand and address concerns and develop proposals to address these
•Provide sustainability support to communication and marketing activities to ensure accurate and effective messaging of our sustainability credentials
•Work closely with internal government affairs team to strategically address local sustainability issues which may impact cruise operations and support responses to public inquiries
Sustainability Advocacy:
•Advocate for sustainable practices within the maritime industry through targeted campaigns, workshops, and educational initiatives.
•Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices to incorporate into community engagement strategies.

Community Impact Assessment :
•Conduct regular impact assessments to measure the effectiveness of sustainability programmes and initiatives on local communities.
•Work with relevant teams to develop and implement improvement plans based on assessment results.

Communication and Reporting :
•Work closely with the communications team to ensure delivery of clear and compelling communication materials, including reports, presentations, and articles, to share the company's sustainability efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
•Support other sustainability related communications, including sustainability reports, social media and online platforms

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience) :
•Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, sustainability, maritime /port operations or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
•At least 10 years’ experience in community engagement activities, demonstrating effective delivery and positive outcomes
•At least 10 years’ experience in a Port (working in a Northern European Port is a Plus).
•Strong understanding of sustainability principles and their application in the maritime sector.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
•Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex sustainability challenges.
•Familiarity with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
•Experience with engagement of cruise port communities in Europe is a distinct advantage
•Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams.
•English as a working language with an additional European language considered a plus
