Job title: Assistant Head (IBDP Coordinator)
Reporting to: Deputy Director
JOB PURPOSE
The Assistant Head (IBDP Coordinator) is a senior leader responsible for the strategic direction, compliance, pedagogical leadership, and operational management of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at Aiglon College. The postholder works with the Deputy Director Academic to ensure the programme is delivered to a world-class standard, upholds the IBO's standards and practices, and contributes significantly to the strategic academic development of the senior school. The postholder will also collaborate with the Head of Years 12 and 13 to ensure comprehensive student support and a commitment to the school’s Guiding Principles. The following list should not be considered as definitive but acts as a guide to those areas for which the Assistant Head (IBDP Coordinator) will be responsible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & Pedagogical Leadership
As an Assistant Head and pedagogical leader, this role is critical to the delivery of the Aiglon College mission and vision.
1) Strategic Planning
Actively participate as a member of the Extended Leadership Team (ELT) and the Academic Leadership Group (ALG), working closely with the Deputy Director Academic, in whole-school strategic planning and the implementation of the school's vision as it relates to the IBDP.
2) Pedagogical Leadership
Act as a key pedagogical leader, utilising specific expertise in IB programmes to:
Mentor learners, teachers, and community partners within the IBDP.
Promote educational approaches consistent with the school’s vision and the IB’s expectations, including Approaches to Learning (ATL) and Approaches to Teaching (ATT).
Monitor the effective implementation of conceptual understanding and contexts in the DP curriculum.
3) Mission Alignment
Ensure that the IBDP's development aligns with and supports the Aiglon College mission, vision, and strategic goals.
IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) Management & Compliance
The Coordinator works closely with the Deputy Director Academic on the academic management and compliance of the IBDP.
1) Curriculum & Scheduling
Lead the design, implementation, and documentation of a coherent DP curriculum in collaboration with the Deputy Director Academic.
Ensure all Diploma Programme subjects meet the IB recommended teaching hours.
Participate in the timetabling process to ensure the schedule supports effective DP student learning and programme requirements.
2) Assessment & Policy
Work with the Deputy Director Academic on the external examination process, including the monitoring of results and management of predicted grades.
Lead the development of IB-mandated policies (e.g., Academic Honesty, Assessment) in accordance with the "Culture" standards of the Programme standards and practices.
Ensure the school's academic policy is aligned with IB expectations regarding requirements and penalties for breaches of regulations.
3) Authorisation and Evaluation
Coordinate the school’s IB re-accreditation, self-study, and programme evaluation visit, communicating with the IBO for all authorisation and evaluation matters.
4) Administration & Communication:
Administer and return all relevant documentation to the IBO, maintaining regular contact with the Organisation.
Manage the school’s use of ManageBac for curriculum documentation, internal assessment (IA) monitoring, and submitting candidate assessment material.
Manage and communicate the IB Internal Assessment/Academic calendar, ensuring consistency across subject departments.
5) Core Component Oversight
Monitor the implementation of the core components: Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
6) Admissions & Guidance
Support the subject options process and participate in admissions interviews for prospective DP students.
Student Support and Collaboration
The Coordinator will work in close partnership with the Head of Years 12–13 to ensure comprehensive student support and progress monitoring, reporting to the Deputy Director Academic on all academic concerns.
1) Collaborative Progress Monitoring
Work closely with the Head of Years 12–13 to ensure consistent tracking of student progress from both an academic and wellbeing point of view.
2) Intervention Structure
Collaborate on structuring the system of academic interventions associated with student data for Year 12 and 13 students.
3) Guidance
In coalition with the University Advising team, provide guidance to learners on the next steps in their learning or transitions beyond Aiglon College, as well as leading the IBDP options process for Year 11 students.
Staff Management & Professional Development
The role involves line management and leading professional growth for DP staff.
1) Line Management
Line manage the Assistant IB Coordinator for the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).
2) Professional Development (PD)
Take the lead on organising, informing the school community of, and monitoring all IB-mandated PD.
Ensure teachers have access to programme documentation and IB frameworks via the programme resource centre.
Introduce and induct new staff to the school’s IB programmes.
Foster ongoing teacher collaboration and ensure access to relevant IB professional learning communities.
3) Quality assurance
Support the quality assurances processed within the school.
General Secondary School Duties
1) Teaching
Maintain a reduced teaching load as a classroom teacher within a relevant subject department.
2) Communication
Inform and advise the School Council, parents/legal guardians, and the wider community regarding all aspects of the Diploma Programme.
3) Duty
Undertake weekend duties as part of the Leadership Team rota.
4) Ethos
Act as a role model for staff and students.
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people.
Undertake any other task which may be reasonably requested by the Deputy Director to assist in the smooth running of the team.
Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.
