Reporting To: Head of Trade
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially driven Senior Distillates Trader to join our trading team. The ideal candidate should possess extensive expertise in proprietary trading of oil derivatives, including futures, swaps, and options, with a strong track record of profitability. The role requires excellent risk management capabilities, deep market knowledge, and the ability to develop and execute data-driven trading strategies. A key aspect of this position involves collaborating closely with physical trading teams and mentoring junior traders.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage proprietary derivative trading strategies within the global derivatives team, focusing on futures, swaps, and options.
Execute day-to-day trading of cross barrel products, including gasoil/Brent crack, gasoil/fuel oil, gasoline/Brent crack, RME/gasoil, FAME/gasoil, and bean oil/gasoil.
Continuously monitor and analyse participant behaviours, market trends, and technical insights to identify new trading opportunities and refine existing strategies.
Maintain strong risk management discipline within defined book limits, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Act as the main market interface for derivative trades within the organization’s global physical trading network.
Lead the development and implementation of advanced trading strategies, including algorithmic trading and data-driven decision-making models.
Provide mentorship, training, and development support to junior traders as part of the Trader Development Program.
Collaborate with physical trading teams to align trading strategies with broader commercial objectives.
Oversee and contribute to major projects, such as developing historical and forward price curves, big data analytics for stock and sales flows, and market intelligence initiatives.
Lead big data-driven projects, including real-time stock and sales flow analysis, to enhance trading decisions.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of 20 years of experience in oil trading, with a focus on distillates derivatives.
Strong proprietary trading track record in futures, swaps, and options, with a consistent history of profitability.
Extensive experience in futures and options brokerage, trading execution, and market making.
In-depth knowledge of global oil markets, market structures, regulatory frameworks and risk management techniques.
Proven ability to develop trading models using technical, fundamental, and quantitative analysis.
Proven leadership and mentoring experience, particularly in training and developing junior traders. Highly analytical and numerate, with excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
High level of integrity and professionalism, ensuring strict adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with automated/algorithmic trading strategies and quantitative modelling.
Strong ability to understand and integrate big data analytics into trading decision-making processes.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
