Job Purpose :
The position is responsible for providing leadership to our global coffee business
The position is going to be based in Geneva, Switzerland
Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Unit Strategy
Develop and implement business and transformation plan for coming years
build a strategy built on competitive advantages of COFCO International’s footprint globally as well on the basis of the existing coffee organization
develop a business model with balance between origin, physical trading, proprietary trading and destination
Manage origin operations (e.g., Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Ethiopia) and destination markets.
Trading Strategy & Execution:
Build a proprietary trading model under consideration of S&D, fund trading strategies and destination markets
Develop and implement global trading strategies for green coffee (Arabica/Robusta).
Oversee physical coffee trading, hedging, and risk management across futures markets (e.g., ICE, NYBOT).
Manage origin operations (e.g., Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Ethiopia) and destination markets.
Develop China as destination market
P&L & Risk Management:
Own the division’s global P&L, ensuring profitability and cost efficiency.
Monitor market trends, geopolitical risks, weather impacts, and supply/demand dynamics.
Implement hedging strategies to mitigate price volatility and currency risks.
Be the main interface to Risk department for risk allocation and risk limits, as well as counter party and operational risk
Supply Chain Optimization:
Secure long-term contracts with producers, cooperatives and customer.
Optimize logistics, warehousing, and quality control across origins.
Leverage global CIL footprint for cost optimization in collaboration with other CIL business units in Grains & Oilseeds and Softs
Ensure compliance with sustainability certifications (e.g., Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance).Team Leadership:
Lead the global coffee business and staff (300 employees)
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and ethical trading practice in line with COFCO International’s Sunshine Culture and values
Stakeholder Engagement:
Enhance relationships with key clients (roasters, retailers, manufacturers), suppliers, and financial partners
Extend regional client footprint to new origins and destinations
Represent the company at industry events
Market Intelligence:
Analyze global coffee market data, crop reports, and macroeconomic factors as well as hedge fund behavior.
Provide actionable insights to company leadership and commercial teams for cross-product insights and global leverage.
Qualifications
Essential:
10+ years’ experience in proprietary coffee trading with outstanding track record for at least the last 3 years
10+ years’ experience in physical coffee trading, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
Deep expertise in green coffee markets, including futures/options hedging and arbitrage.
Proven track record managing a global P&L
Strong network across coffee origins (Americas, Africa, Asia) and major consuming markets.
Proficiency in risk management tools and market analytics.
Fluency in English; additional languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese) highly valued.
Willingness to travel internationally (30–40%).
Experience with sustainability frameworks and direct-trade models.
Experienced in managing across diverse cultures, gained through living in various countries
