Description

The Head of Business Development is responsible for driving sustainable business growth by identifying new market opportunities, building strategic partnerships, leading commercial initiatives, and supporting the achievement of the company's long-term growth strategy. The role secures external partnerships and collaborates closely with executive leadership, sales, marketing, finance, operations, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities / Duties:
• Manage all in-licensing (IL) deals from initiation through execution of negotiations with third-party suppliers, considering:

  • Best deal type
  • Most favorable timelines (first-to-market where possible)
  • Quality
  • Commercial terms
  • • Find CMOs for internally developed products that Fresenius Kabi cannot manufacture.
    • Negotiate commercial terms until agreements are signed.
    • Scout and identify new business development opportunities to expand the portfolio via in-licensing.
    • Drive and lead the commercial evaluation of external in-licensing opportunities.
    • Lead licensing agreement negotiations to close deals.
    • Prepare briefings, business cases, and obtain management approval.
    • Manage existing alliances and establish long-term professional relationships with partners.
    • Support the partner intelligence system developed by the Business Development team.
    • Assess M&A opportunities.
    • Represent Fresenius Kabi at industry conventions and conferences.
    • Monitor the market, competitors, and industry trends.
    • Generate and evaluate new project ideas, including:

  • Patent expiry opportunities
  • Gap analysis
  • External offers
  • Life-cycle management
  • • Take ownership of in-licensing projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams to keep timelines on track.
    • Build and lead a team of Business Development professionals responsible for partnership management, licensing opportunities, market expansion initiatives and strategic growth projects, ensuring delivery of both short-term business objectives and long-term portfolio growth.

Education:
• Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field
• MBA preferred

Experience:
• >15 years in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or healthcare industries
• Own end-to-end business development outcomes, with full accountability for identifying, prioritizing, negotiating, and delivering strategic growth opportunities that create sustainable value for the company
• Proven track record of executing partnership, licensing or acquisition deals
• Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams across complex, matrixed organizations
• Experience in international and multi-country environments
• Demonstrated success launching new business models or growth initiatives
• Experience interacting with C-level executives and external partners
• Proven experience developing growth strategies and delivering measurable results
• Experience leading strategic partnerships and negotiations
• International business experience preferred
• On field experience with US GPO partners and deep understanding of market access, reimbursement and healthcare policy knowledge
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks
• Understanding of six sigma practice, preferably from yellow belt grade up
• Experience with branded, generic, biosimilar and specialty pharmaceutical portfolios
• Understanding of manufacturing, supply chain and quality requirements in a regulated environment
• M&A, Licensing & partnership experience
• Portfolio and pipeline strategy
• Financial modeling and valuation
• Development of European and North American market with an excellent knowledge of the North American business culture and deals practice
