Hi, we're Sparta Commodities!
Sparta is the next generation, AI-first commodity trading data platform. Our technology is revolutionising trading workflows, delivering market intelligence that empowers traders and analysts across all energy verticals.
We combine the largest selection of broker and pricing data on the market with real-time predictive intelligence, news, and insight. Sparta enables trading desks to make better decisions, faster and with greater conviction.
We've recently secured a $42M Series B funding round and are scaling aggressively. It's a great time to join us and help build the future of market intelligence for commodity trading.
The Role
The Head of Product Experts leads a global team of Product Specialists responsible for bridging deep market knowledge with Sparta's commercial efforts. This role plays a critical part in driving revenue growth by ensuring that customers and prospects receive authoritative, expert guidance on commodity markets and Sparta's product suite.
You will set the strategic direction for the Product Experts function, defining how the team operates across regions, ensuring consistent excellence in client engagement, and creating a culture of continuous development. As a senior commercial leader, you will be both a hands-on contributor and a force multiplier — directly engaging with flagship accounts while coaching your team to deliver exceptional outcomes at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and manage a geographically distributed team of Product Specialists across
Singapore, Dubai, Europe, and the US.
Coach and develop team members, setting clear performance expectations and growth frameworks.
Drive a high-performance culture grounded in Sparta's values: ownership, curiosity, and client obsession.
Recruit, onboard, and retain top talent as the team scales globally.
Define and standardise best practices for client engagement, demo delivery, and
market communication across the team.
Commercial Impact
Support the sales organisation by actively participating in and guiding strategic client
calls, demos, and product presentations.
Act as a senior point of escalation for complex commercial and technical
conversations with prospects and customers.
Partner with Sales leadership to identify pipeline opportunities where Product Expert
engagement can accelerate deal velocity.
Drive expansion revenue by deepening existing customer relationships and
identifying upsell opportunities.
Support API-led sales and adoption, helping flagship clients integrate Sparta data
directly into their internal workflows.
Market Authority & Thought Leadership
Provide authoritative and expert market opinions that reinforce Sparta's positioning
as a trusted intelligence platform.
Represent Sparta at industry events, panels, and roundtables globally, building
Sparta's profile as a market authority.
Collaborate with the Research team to shape and approve regional market
commentaries and client-facing insights.
Build and nurture long-term relationships with senior stakeholders at NOCs, refiners,
trading houses, and commodity banks.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Sales, Research, and Product teams to ensure consistent
and compelling market messaging.
Serve as the voice of the market to the Product team, feeding regional workflow
requirements and client feedback into the roadmap.
Work with Customer Success to drive deep adoption of Sparta's workflows, ensuring
long-term retention and renewals.
Partner with Marketing to develop thought leadership content, case studies, and
event strategy.
About You
Essential Experience
10+ years of senior-level experience in global commodity markets, with deep
expertise across crude oil, refined products, and tanker freight — gained through
roles spanning trading, price reporting, market intelligence, and/or institutional
research.
5+ years in a senior leadership or management capacity, with a proven track record
of building, scaling, and developing high-performing teams across multiple
geographies and time zones.
Demonstrated experience engaging authoritatively with front-office trading teams and
senior decision-makers at trading houses, NOCs, refiners, and commodity banks,
including representing organisations externally at industry conferences and events.
Strong commercial acumen — experience in sales-adjacent, pre-sales, or product
specialist roles where individual performance had direct revenue impact.
Proven ability to represent a product or platform externally as a credible market
expert, including presenting at conferences or industry events.
A breadth of experience spanning multiple industry settings is strongly preferred —
ideally including a combination of data platforms or SaaS vendors, price reporting
agencies (PRAs), and institutional research or macro hedge fund environments.
Technical and analytical depth: proven familiarity with data platforms, analytics
workflows, and API-led integrations in a trading or market intelligence context — with
the ability to guide clients in embedding market intelligence into their operational and
decision-making workflows.
Skills & Attributes
Exceptional communication skills — able to translate complex market dynamics into
clear, compelling narratives for both technical and commercial audiences.
Strong coaching instincts: you develop people proactively and create environments
where team members grow fast.
Commercially minded and target-oriented — you understand how your team's work
drives revenue and you hold yourself and others accountable to outcomes.
Highly networked across energy trading and analytics, with an existing rolodex of
senior contacts at trading houses, NOCs, refiners, and commodity banks.
Comfortable with ambiguity and pace — you thrive in high-growth environments
where the playbook is still being written.
Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership instincts; proactive, urgent, and
decisive.
High level of integrity, ethical standards, and alignment with Sparta's values.
Fluency in English required; additional languages (Arabic, French, Mandarin) are a
plus.
Nice to Have
Familiarity with API integrations and data workflows in a trading or analytics context.
Experience working across multiple commodity verticals (crude, refined products,
LNG, power, or metals).
Prior experience at a commodity data vendor, exchange, or price reporting agency (PRA).
