JOB PURPOSE
A houseparent at Aiglon College enters into a fast-paced leadership role central to our school’s vibrant international boarding community. A houseparent is responsible for students’ holistic care, welfare and character development within one of our ten boarding houses. This includes leading a dedicated house team, fostering a positive environment, inspiring a community of young people and upholding the school’s values and policies. A houseparent also has teaching responsibilities and engages actively in school life.
The houseparent lives on campus in the boarding house. Houseparent apartments are suitable for families. They have dedicated living and dining areas, with access through the house main entrance.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This overview of responsibilities is specific to the role, but is not exhaustive. Houseparents at Aiglon must be flexible and adaptable in order to fulfil the role. Responsibilities and expectations are outlined in the Aiglon College contract of employment in accordance with the school’s policies and Guiding Principles and under the direction of the School Director.
Student Welfare and Development
Provide a safe and supportive environment in the boarding house, promoting student wellbeing, academic progress, character development and personal growth.
Maintain high standards of student behaviour through encouragement, reward and consistent application of student expectations.
Support and guide student academic and character development by working closely and liaising with the assistant heads, teachers and tutors, as well as key departments across the school.
Monitor and support student health and wellbeing in collaboration with responsible teams.
Coordinate and take an active leadership role in house events, expeditions, parent hospitality and entertainment.
Ensure that all boarding students feel included in a vibrant, diverse community.
Leadership and Team Management
Lead and manage the house team, including an assistant houseparent (residential), house assistant (non-residential) and tutors to ensure effective collaboration and smooth functioning of the house and appropriate levels of supervision.
Develop team rotas, assign duties and provide guidance and support to staff.
Foster a sense of leadership among house prefects, encouraging their growth and active contribution to the house community.
Appropriately manage and ensure student and house team familiarity and compliance with all house protocols and emergency procedures.
Communication and Collaboration
Act as the primary contact for parents and guardians, maintaining regular and professional communication regarding their child’s wellbeing and progress across all dimensions of school life.
Liaise actively with school leadership, including the Director of Boarding, Deputy School Directors and Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure a positive house environment.
Address any concerns in line with school policies and promptly manage any incidents.
Participate in regular staff and houseparent meetings, be an active part of the wider houseparent team and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
Operational Management
Oversee the smooth daily operation of the house, ensuring cleanliness, safety and order in collaboration with the operations team and domestic staff.
Support students in managing their schedules, including weekend arrangements, travel plans and house activities.
Play a key role at the beginning and end of terms to help manage student arrivals and departures.
Maintain accurate records, including attendance and medications.
Manage the house finances in line with school policies.
Write and prepare termly student reports and university recommendations.
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach an average of 14 periods per week as agreed with the School Director, ensuring high-quality teaching and exam preparation, as well as adherence to departmental policies.
Embody the standards outlined in the Aiglon Teacher Profile.
Contribute to the academic life of the school by fulfilling duties as needed, such as supervising IB Extended Essays or invigilating examinations.

Collaboration and Community Engagement
Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development initiatives.
Attend Meditation/Assembly at least two mornings per week and be prepared to give a Meditation at least once per term.
Contribute to the school’s events, activities, and expeditions programmes.
Undertake pastoral and other duties as prescribed within school policies.
Engage with and support colleagues, promoting a positive and collegial working environment.
Professional Conduct

OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people.
Undertake any other task which may be reasonably requested by the Director of Boarding to assist in the smooth running of the house team.
Understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.
