Summary:
The successful candidate will work full-time in our Geneva office as part of a team of top-ranking lawyers and other professionals on complex and extensive international trade litigation matters before the World Trade Organization (‘WTO’).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Working as part of the International Trade team, and reporting directly to the partners, the International Disputes Analyst will be expected to have relevant expert knowledge to provide advice, analysis and opinions on ongoing WTO cases.
The International Disputes Analyst will be required to manage legally cross-border disputes, in particular to research, review, draft and proofread a variety of documents relevant to dispute resolution matters before the WTO, including expert-witness reports, economic and legal analyses, party and third party submissions, opening and closing statements to hearing, responses to panel questions, and other submissions. The International Disputes Analyst will also be required to conduct consultations with stakeholders and to support the negotiation of trade and investment agreements.
The International Disputes Analyst is expected to work closely with the firm’s clients, mainly from South Asia and in particular India, and will help ensure effective communication and coordination between the internal team, clients, and external local counsel. For this reason, the post requires excellent communication skills and a native- or equivalent-level of spoken and written English, as well as several languages from India, to ensure the development and retention of a key Sidley client base and effective communication within the Sidley team.

Qualifications, languages, experience and education:
The International Disputes Analyst must have a Masters (essential) or higher (preferred) degree in International Law (with a focus on international trade issues and/or international dispute settlement), Economics, or International Trade Policy.
He or she must have practical experience working on WTO disputes, and must have a high-level of practical and academic knowledge and experience working on WTO issues in general (including implementation issues, treaty commitments, jurisprudence, economic effects etc), and advising on trade and investment agreement negotiations.
The International Disputes Analyst must have experience in international arbitration and representing countries before international courts, as well as specific experience in international trade matters relative to India. Candidates who have worked several years in India and/or with Indian authorities (minimum 2 years) in this field are particularly sought.
