Description
The UK Mission to the WTO, UN and other international organisations (Geneva) is part of a worldwide network, representing the United Kingdom’s political, economic and consular interests overseas.
The UK Mission is now recruiting a highly motivated and skilled intern to support the work of the Office of the Global Ambassador for Human Rights and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
The selected intern will assist on a range of tasks supporting the Ambassador’s representational and policy work in Geneva and around the world.

Roles and responsibilities
Communications:
- Support the planning and implementation of the Ambassador’s public communications strategy, including working with the UKMIS Communications Team to coordinate impactful campaigns aligned with human rights, humanitarian and migration priorities.
- As part of a wider team, ensure the production of impactful content for diverse media and digital channels, including writing news articles and Op Eds, preparing videos, and drafting social media posts.
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the implementation of the Ambassador’s communication strategy to reach new and strategic stakeholders and communities, and to generate greater impact on human rights, humanitarian and migration issues.
Events planning:
- As part of a wider team, support the organisation of UKMIS events to advance UK priorities. This will include coordination of logistics, protocol, and communication with diverse and strategic stakeholders and communities including governments, NGOs, international organisations, academia and the private sector.
- Support the organisation of country visits as part of the Ambassador’s wider roving role.
Office Management:
- Play a lead role in the management of internal databases, file management and updating of planning documents.
- Support the management of diary and logistics for the Ambassador.
Policy:
- Support the Human Rights and Humanitarian and Migration teams on policy tasks including in the context of UN institutional meetings. This may include drafting correspondence, logistical coordination, representation, preparation of briefings, and drafting reports.
- Support policy teams across UKMIS to advance UK priorities at the interface of human rights, humanitarian and migration issues, including in fields such as health, trade, and development.
- Fluency in both oral and written English (minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*) and excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in digital tools and multimedia platforms. Confidence working with social medial platforms and an interest in creating visual and multimedia content (e.g. working with Canva or similar video production and editing tools).
- Proven experience in event management.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong interest in multilateralism and international affairs, including in the fields of human rights, humanitarian affairs and/or migration policy.
- Good interpersonal skills, able to work with peers and seniors.
- Highly motivated, flexible and positive team player, who enjoys collaboration and brings initiative and curiosity to work.
- Willingness to undergo a mandatory security check.
- Prior relevant internship or experience working in or with governments, international organisations, NGOs, or UN agencies.
- Degree in human rights, international relations, political science, communications, diplomacy or another related field.
- Language Skills: Knowledge of French.
This is a full-time, 11-month internship.
