Description
The Medical Lead EMEA & LatAm (m/f/d) will be responsible for driving strategic planning for the regions as well as engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and leading medical education initiatives in the regions. This role will collaborate cross-functionally to provide scientific and medical support and be a strategic partner to both internal and external stakeholders. The Medical Lead will also be responsible for monitoring and analyzing scientific literature, supporting the review and submission of regulatory documents, and representing the company at scientific conferences.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Develop and execute the regional medical strategy for the regions in alignment with global objectives.
Be a strategic partner to internal stakeholders such as regional VPs and leaders in Commercial, Regulatory, and Market Access, as well as clinical teams to ensure medical insights drive business decisions.
Development of key scientific messages and medical communication strategies in the respective regions in alignment with the global strategy.
Collaborate with regulatory affairs teams to support medical review of promotional and non-promotional materials, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
HCP Engagement & Medical Education:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and leaders in relevant healthcare sectors across EMEA and LatAm, in addition to regional regulatory bodies.
Plan and execute medical education programs, advisory boards, and scientific exchange meetings in key markets.
Provide scientific training and guidance to HCPs and internal teams on disease areas and product-related topics across both regions both virtually and in person.
Medical & Scientific Support:
Be the key medical and scientific resource for internal teams, ensuring accurate and up-to-date medical knowledge for the responsible markets.
Provide input on development of scientific materials, including slide decks, FAQs, and training content.
Continuously review and analyze scientific literature and emerging data to identify trends and opportunities.
Communicate key scientific insights to internal teams and stakeholders.
Attend international and regional scientific congresses, conferences, and symposia
Represent the company in scientific discussions, engage with experts, and gather insights for internal dissemination.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Advanced degree in Life Sciences or Healthcare (MD Medicine, PharmD Pharmacy, or PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Nursing, or related fields); Master’s in Public Health (MPH) or Business (MBA) is a plus
+7 years of experience in a medical affairs or related role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry
Experience and existent knowledge to drive medical affairs both in EMEA and LatAm
Strong understanding of clinical research, pharmacology, and disease areas relevant to diabetes care
Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industries
Proven track record for creating and executing a regional med affairs strategy
Experience in HCP engagement, medical education, and scientific exchange
Familiarity with regional regulations (e.g., EMA for Europe, ANVISA for Brazil, COFEPRIS for Mexico, and others).
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Pharmacovigilance Practices (GVP), and local compliance laws
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong scientific expertise in diabetes or medical devices
Deep understanding of therapeutic areas, clinical data interpretation, and medical guidelines
Excellent communication and presentation skills across all hierarchy levels both internally and externally.
Effective scientific writing skills for publications, medical information documents, and reports.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional, multicultural environment within a matrix organization.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese is highly desirable.
Understanding of cultural and healthcare system differences in EMEA and LATAM regions
Experience with Real-World Evidence (RWE), Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) is a plus.
Ability to work in a matrix organization and manage multiple stakeholders.
