Description
For an international company in the global agribusiness market in 4332 Stein (Aargau) we are looking for a Research Scientist Fungicide Bioscience - temporary assignment, min. 1 year (100%)
Responsibilities
The Resistance Research team at our customer in Stein is looking for a dedicated and accountable research scientist to design, coordinate, and deliver monitoring programs and analyses to understand the evolution of fungicide resistance across a global range of plant-pathogenic fungi. Bioassay (in vitro or in vivo) and molecular methodologies, from sample preparation to sequencing data analysis, are regularly employed to monitor resistance evolution. Monitoring programs require significant logistical efforts for planning sample collection, handling metadata, propagating biological material in sterile conditions, conducting and evaluating bioassays, and molecular analyses. Automation and standardization of processes, teamwork, and flexibility through collaboration with different subgroups of the Resistance Research Team are integral to the daily job. Reproducibility and high-quality results are essential. Knowledge of bioinformatics for sequencing analyses with software tools such as R, Geneious, Spotfire, or similar packages is beneficial. This position requires good interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to supporting different projects.
- Support and conduct monitoring program activities (e.g., Zymoseptoria tritici, Botrytis cinerea, Plasmopara viticola, Phytophthora infestans, Alternaria spp.)
- Support and manage the logistics of incoming and outgoing sampling and biological material at the global level
- Manage sample metadata and results from different monitoring programs
- Assist with the isolation and cultivation of biological material
- Extract DNA from laboratory and environmental samples (strains and bulked populations) for further molecular analysis
- Provide support for bioassays, e.g., sterile bench work and cell counting and molecular activities (e.g., DNA extraction, primer design, single- and multiplex PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing, NGS sequencing, and cloning).
Profile
- Educational background in biology or agronomy (apprenticeship, BSc, MSc)
- Some years of laboratory experience are beneficial
- Maintain a proactive problem-solving attitude and engage in supporting a range of projects in development within the Resistance Research Team
- Be flexible, curious and eager to learn new technologies
- Ensure compliance with internal Health, Safety, and Environment guidelines
- Language skills in German and/or fluency in English requested.
Benefits
- modern workplace
- fringe benefits
- further education program
