We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel - Claims (Reefer) Manager to lead the management of reefer cargo claims globally. In this strategic role, you will oversee investigations, mitigate losses, drive recoveries, and ensure legal compliance in coordination with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Description
Your Main Responsibilities:
Lead in-depth investigations into reefer cargo claims to evaluate liability and assess damages.
Negotiate settlements with clients, vessel operators, terminals, and other involved parties.
Proactively manage cargo incidents to minimize financial exposure.
Implement loss prevention strategies based on incident analysis.
Coordinate legal matters with internal and external legal advisors.
Initiate recovery actions and liaise with insurers and third parties.
Maintain internal claims systems and reporting platforms.
Ensure proper documentation, revise survey procedures, and uphold legal standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve recurring issues and enhance efficiency.
Regularly brief the Head of the department on high-impact incidents.
Leadership Responsibilities
As team leader, you will:
Supervise and mentor a team of 8 claims professionals.
Delegate tasks effectively and ensure accountability through performance reviews.
Identify development needs and foster a learning environment.
Build strong relationships across departments to support integrated case management.
Drive process improvements and encourage innovation in claims handling.
Profile
Law degree, ideally with a specialisation in maritime law or marine insurance.
5-10 years of demonstrated expertise in cargo claims management, especially perishable or reefer cargo.
Strong understanding of shipping operations and international maritime regulations.
- Previous managerial or leadership experience would be a strong asset.
Fluent in English (written and spoken); French is a plus.
Skilled in Microsoft Office.
Independent, responsible, and solutions-driven.
Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
