Sustainability Manager

We are searching for an experienced Sustainability Manager at our MSC Geneva - Geneva facility. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

JOB PURPOSE 

The position is in charge of supporting the MSC Cargo Division Sustainability VP to oversee and enable the implementation of the sustainability plan across different areas of business including newly acquired companies operating under the umbrella of the Division (e.g: inland logistics, terminal operations and air freight) and ensure constant alignment with the sustainability roadmap.

In particular, she/he will be in charge of assuring sustainability topics are progressively addressed and embedded in their respective areas of business.
The person will also act as a dedicated support to assist Sustainability Teams across the business areas in defining and consolidating the specific sustainability plan and setting targets (environmental and social impact) monitoring of the distance to target over time, in alignment with the divisional commitments. Overseeing projects development, evaluating possible synergies as well as fostering implementation of best practice, while ensuring involvement of key stakeholders, will also be part of the tasks.
He/she will continuously research and evaluate evolving ESG trends and regulatory landscape including international standards, with a global perspective; stay informed regarding emerging sustainability issues and best practices; identify opportunities for collaboration and assist with development of specific actions or projects required to ensure consistent progress of the agenda.
He/she will work jointly with relevant departments across the entire Division and contribute to ensuring all key internal stakeholders (including experts) are involved in the definition of projects and programmes directly impacting on the delivery of the sustainability plan.  
He/she will actively represent MSC in collaborative platforms, industry associations and other key stakeholders focussing on sustainability issues across the transportation industry.

YOUR ROLE 

  • Serve as subject matter expert, and continuously develop insights and competence to proactively support the business.
  • Liaise with all relevant company departments and business entities within the MSC Cargo Division to contribute to the progressive embedding of sustainability across the entire value chain.
  • Provide strategic -thought and action- leadership on environmental and social impact to progress on the implementation of the strategic agenda.
  • Build solid relationships with all different business entities, understand specific requirements (including stakeholders expectations) and support team members in defining the most appropriate approach to execute the strategy and deliver the sustainability plan (including support on target definition and materiality analysis).
  • Inspire and constantly engage with internal key stakeholders to ensure awareness on the sustainability evolving landscape and on emerging challenges related to the transport industry.
  • Contribute to coordinating and overseeing cross-divisional projects and activities related to the implementation of the sustainability plan, with reference to social and environmental area in cooperation with the Sustainability Team members is also part of his/her responsibilities.
  • Assist in the development and publication of the annual Sustainability Report and collaborate across departments and businesses entities to develop relevant contents and ensure consistency and performance on progress are addressed.
  • Analyze the possible impacts of international legislation in the fields of environmental and social impacts on MSC business and specifically on the different business entities, understands and contributes to designing actions to comply with related regulatory requirements.
  • Act as point of contact for MSC within collaborative platforms, industry associations and other key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • University degree (Economics or equivalent, Master in Sustainability a plus), advanced degree valued.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant sustainability related fields and complex organizations.
  • Subject matter expert in sustainability with a focus on environmental and social impact management.
  • Sound project management skills and ability to deliver on-time and efficiently with multiple stakeholders in a global environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the EU sustainability-related regulatory landscape as well as other relevant international legislations.
  • Consolidated experience in structuring plans, implementing strategies and aligning different business at global level, transportation industry a plus.
  • International background and excellent language skills.
  • Good intercommunication skills and ability to interact with high-ranking officers within complex organizations.
  • Ability and experience to inspire and coordinate other professionals and work in cross-functional teams.
