Director of global projects operations

We are looking for a Director of Global Project Operations to lead a central operations team supporting international project delivery. This position oversees financial and administrative operations, including donor contracting, budgeting, reporting, and audit preparation. The role also drives improvements in systems and processes to ensure consistency, compliance, and cost-efficiency across a large global programme portfolio.

Description

• Manage a team of 15-20 professionals working across finance, grants management, and operations
• Oversee end-to-end support for budgeting, donor reporting, contracting, procurement, and cost recovery
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and donor requirements, including financial oversight of grants and implementing partners
• Develop and manage service-level agreements and KPIs for operational support
• Lead internal process improvements in project finance and administration systems
• Support risk management and ensure financial data integrity across all active projects
• Coordinate and deliver global training and capacity building in project financial management
• Manage the operations unit's budget and ensure full cost recovery on services provided

Profile

Must-Have Experience & Skills

• Chartered Accountant or equivalent financial qualification
• 5-10 years' experience in international grants or programme operations
• Previous experience in a Big 4 consulting or audit firm is a strong asset
• Strong knowledge of donor reporting, project budgeting, and contract management
• Proven team leadership skills and ability to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholders
• Familiarity with ERP systems and tools like Excel, Power BI, or other financial analysis software
• Experience with full cost recovery models and financial audits

Nice to Have

• Experience working with donors such as the EU, GEF, or GCF
• Background in non-profit or international development sectors
• Strong negotiation skills and a pragmatic, hands-on approach to operational challenges
