Executive Director

The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is looking for a new Executive Director (ED) to take over from the outgoing ED who has been with the Society for over 20 years.

ERS is a non-profit international membership organisation that brings together physicians, healthcare professionals, scientists and other experts working in respiratory medicine. ERS is one of the leading medical organisations in the respiratory field, with a growing membership of over 34,000 members, representing over 160 countries. ERS prioritises science, education and advocacy in order to promote respiratory health, alleviate suffering from disease and drive standards for respiratory medicine globally.

The position of the Executive Director (ED) is a crucial role within ERS and is positioned in a complex environment with many different internal and external stakeholders. ERS is looking for an experienced leader who is able to deliver to high standards. The ED works closely with the ERS Core Management Group and wider leadership and is responsible for the implementation of the organisation's strategy, operational oversight, and leadership of the ERS Office team (about 100 employees located in three different countries).

The role is located in Lausanne, Switzerland, with travel across Europe and internationally.

The salary is commensurate with the seniority of the position.

Applications will be considered by the ERS Selection Committee in early August. Preliminary discussions with longlisted candidates will take place in mid-August, and the Committee will then meet at the end of August to decide on a shortlist of candidates. These individuals will subsequently be invited for formal interviews w/c 1st September in Amsterdam (please note interviews may take place over multiple days). Selection of and negotiations with the preferred candidate will take place thereafter.

A development assessment may be part of the procedure.
