Job Description

Purpose of the Role

Acting as primary Health Safety, Environment and Quality assurance (HSEQ) advisor / liaison for the site leadership team. Ensuring compliance with federal and local HSEQ regulations and Syngenta policies and standards. Being responsible for all aspects of HSE and Quality programs development, implementation and improvement. Adding expertise and collaborating with the greater Syngenta HSE community.

Accountabilities

Ensuring site compliance with federal and local HSEQ regulations and Syngenta policies and standards, including security.
Owning the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of a comprehensive HSE program and related management systems for the site.
Coordinating and risk assessing projects impacting HSEQ, e.g., management of change (i.e. quality changes, process improvements, etc.), new construction, and other initiatives.
Serving as primary point of contact between HSEQ Corporate or HSE Regulatory and the site. Providing legislative updates regarding HSEQ and updating procedures accordingly.
Leading, influencing and owning all HSEQ site inspections (regulatory or otherwise) through action plan closure.
Facilitating Letter of Assurance and Operational Safety Profile process, communicating significant HSEQ risks to the business, and overseeing action item closure.
Providing HSEQ related guidance and training for all employees, 3rd party contract employees, trade contractors and visitors. Helping ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees (internal and external). Employing HSE awareness techniques, including toolbox talks, safety meetings/committees and safety alerts; enhancing employee engagement.
Participating in site incident investigations and cross-functional teams while leading HSEQ communications and supporting network-wide initiatives to share incident learnings
Contributing to creating a culture where HSEQ aspects are integrated into all activities and departments across the site. Liaising with site leadership teams to ensure effective roll-out of global programs/documentation updates. Supporting the sharing of best practices across HSEQ function.
Assisting the site manager and operational leaders as required in all areas of operations related to HSEQ principles, including operational and capital budgets. Contributing actively as a member of the Syngenta Emergency Management Team and assisting the site manager and members of the site leadership team perform annual training of the EMST.
Managing HSE reporting systems. Coordinating and tracking progress of HSE improvement projects.
Collaborating with the site manager to represent Syngenta to local official authorities regarding health, safety and environment.
Maintaining a thorough presence onsite through site walk-throughs, inspections, etc.
Identifying and developing talent pipeline, and role modeling relevant leadership behaviors capabilities; promoting a strong feedback culture and playing a role in fostering a learning, coaching, and mentoring approach.
Embracing diversity, equity and inclusion to continue attracting the best talent in HSE department, fostering collaborative and productive teamwork, to expand innovative ideas and opportunities.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Engineering for Occupational, Environmental Safety
Ideally +10 years of proven work experience in HSEQ management position in complex manufacturing/industrial environment combined with experience across diverse departments in the field
Minimum 3 years of HSEQ auditing/management experience with proven track record in industrial or chemical production environments, while previous HSEQ job experience is considered a plus.
Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing operations, process safety, and HSEQ requirements, coupled with thorough knowledge of HSE regulatory frameworks.
Proven capability to identify potential risks and safety issues across site operations and design reviews, as well as conduct thorough HSEQ audits and inspections
Demonstrated strategic thinking and strong vision in developing HSEQ function on a manufacturing site combined with strong understanding of risk management, compliance, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. Ability to organize and conduct a site HSEQ audit, conduct risk analysis of HSEQ issues.
In-depth technical knowledge of chemical issues (knowledge of the agro-business will be considered a plus). Experience with ISO standards implementation and additional background in quality or environmental issues is preferred.
Ability to foresee HSEQ performance issues, and take corrective measures, when necessary, prepare detailed updates and forecasts. Demonstrated experience with ERP systems, and advanced computer skills (Power BI, HSE analytics, etc..)
Excellent leadership skills, and personal integrity. Communication and presentation skills. Stakeholder management. Continuous Improvement mindset.
Fluency in French and English is required, German is a plus
